A reflection from VP: Clubs & Associations, Kara McDowell
This year, the Students’ Union launched our first-ever #SUCares campaign throughout the month of February: #SUCares about Homelessness!
Through this initiative, we collected countless hygiene products, socks, non-perishable food items/snacks, clothing, blankets and more. In order to make this all happen, we collaborated with a variety of departments across both of our campuses – including the Waterloo Dean of Students Office, Centre for Student Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Alumni Hall, Office of the President, Wellness Centre, Graduate Students’ Association, RBC in the AC, Wilf’s, Brantford Dean of Students Office, and Golden Grounds – to act as donation drop-off locations. All proceeds were split amongst three of our community partners: oneROOF Youth Services, Argus Residence for Young People in Kitchener-Waterloo, and Nova Vita in Brantford.
We are so proud of how our campuses came together to support youth experiencing homelessness in both KW and Brantford. We want to thank everyone who participated and cannot wait to see what next year’s #SUCares campaign will look like!
