A reflection from our Students' Union Hospitality Team
To Our Laurier Community,
To Our Laurier Community,
We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your patronage and support of Wilf’s Restaurant & Bar and The Turret in Waterloo, Golden Grounds Coffee in Brantford and our Catering Services on both the Waterloo and Brantford campuses. We look forward to serving you all when we get back on campus again.
We wanted to take a moment to share some of the following achievements from this past school year,
In May 2019, for the 10th year in a row, we participated in the Empty Bowls fundraising campaign in support of the Food Bank of Waterloo Region helping raise $5,000.00 at the 2019 event alone.
In September we continued our proud support of our Students’ Union Shinerama campaign team by sourcing and supplying food for their fundraising BBQs and the sale of Walking Tacos!
Continuing into the semester, in November Wilf’s partnered with Laurier’s United Way campaign and donated over $2,200.00 towards the campaign raised through the sale of items from the United Way feature menu.
Our Hospitality department could not do what we do without the commitment, dedication and hard work our student team members contribute each day. During the 2019-2020 school year we created over 140 student employment opportunities between the Waterloo and Brantford campuses. These employment opportunities allow students to expand their experiential learning, earn income, and contribute to the Laurier community.
We continued to see success with our weekly programming in Wilf’s. Our Monday night Open Mic has been running strong for over 15 years with students placed front and center hosting and performing. Tuesday night BINGO completed it 4th year with our host Twan and Wednesday Trivia completed its 9th year with Gaby
YOU SOLD HOW MUCH?!:
After winning our feature item contest in September, Student Union Vice President of Programming and Services, Twan Dieker, had his signature creation (a mammoth grilled cheese stuffed with Spin Mac and bacon) put on the menu, since then we have gone on to sell over 1,000 of the Twan’s Spin Mac Stack Grilled Cheese!
At Golden Grounds we ground up an astonishing 330lb (that’s POUNDS!) of Baden Coffee Co. coffee beans and 3,126 muffins! That’s a lot of cups of coffee!
But who can forget about SPINACH DIP? This year alone we sold over 11,500 of our famous Spin Dips, that’s nearly ONE AND HALF TONNES!
HERE FOR YOU:
In Waterloo Wilf’s is open 7 days a week to serve our students, staff, faculty, alumni and the rest of the Laurier and Waterloo community. Golden Grounds is open 5 days a week to keep students, staff, and faculty caffeinated and ready to tackle anything. Our catering services work around the clock on both campuses and this year alone we have helped execute, facilitate, support, and celebrate over 100 campus clubs events between the Brantford and Waterloo campuses.
